National Non Profit Childhood Cancer Charity "A Mission Of Love" is starting it's 6th season of our live event fundraisers Comedy 4 Cancer. The new tour is called "Released On Hilarious Behavior".
The first 2 shows are being done for the family of 14 year old Jonny Hendricks who passed away on May 1st 2021 after a long battle with Leukemia.
August 7th at Flanagan's Pub in Lapeer and August 9th at the Detroit Shipping Company in Detroit are the first 2 shows of the tour. All proceeds from those shows will be donated to the Hendricks family.
Comedy 4 Cancer is 2 hour shows featuring stand up comedy and live raffles. Over the last 5 years Comedy 4 Cancer has raised thousands of dollars for childhood cancer families.
A Mission Of Love is going on it's 7th year as a website and 6 years as a 501(c)3 charity. We offer monthly gifts to children battling cancer, provide Christmas for pediatric cancer families, offer financial and emotional support.
A Mission Of Love was started as a website in December 2014 by JD Marshall and his daughter Stephaine (correct spelling) the goal then was to just talk with other families like ours. When Stephaine passed away on April 11th 2015 at 13 years old from cancer. We filed to turn what was a website into a national charity.
My story (JD) is about triumph over tragedy. From finding my father dead at 13, to entering professional wrestling at only 15 and fast forward to becoming the father of an angel.
Steph left me with a blueprint to help other childhood cancer families and a desire to keep her legacy alive. She was a once in a lifetime child. She lived everyday with a heart full of love and laughter. Cancer changed her appearance, but it couldn't change the beautiful person she was.
The monthly gifts are called the "Best Day Award". This was inspired by the last conversation we ever had. The song best day of my life was playing on the TV. She pointed and I asked her what was her best day. She said meeting comedian Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias at the FOX Theatre for 20 minutes before a show. She then asked what mine was. I told her becoming her dad and I told her I loved her. That was our last conversation. A few hours later she was rushed to the hospital. We were told she had a few hours to live, but she changed the script like she always did. We ended up spending 27 days in hospice.
During the time in hospice I was inspired to carry on her legacy by watching her continue to fight. It was also there I came up with Comedy 4 Cancer for our live event fundraisers.
Here we are now entering our 6th season. This tour is scheduled to run for a full year. Each show will assist a family or another charity like ours. These dates and locations are already set.
